After some comic situations it turned out that the girl has boy friend. A ship has sunk ink the Caspian Sea. For two days and two nights, Aliosha and Yussif, the only survivors, drifted until they were rescued by fishermen off an island in Azerbaijan. As he was carrying military orders to mork as a mechanic, Aliosha becomes the only mechanic at the "Fires of Communism", kolkhoz set up on the fishermen. They fall in love with Masha, bead of the kolkhoz. One morring, Aliosha pretends to be ill and refuses to go fishing. He secretly goes to the neigh boring town and buys a necklace and flowers which be gives Masha as a present. Yussif is very upset by Aliosha's breach of common discipline; be is also very jealous and informs the kolkhoz council against him. Or maybe be only imagines he does so. While at sea Aliosha encourages Yussif to marry Masha. During the storm, a wave takes Masha away. Neither Aliosha nor Yussif can save her."Fires of Communism" is the only kolkhoz which does not celebrate the end of the fishing season.
